HP Cloud Services CTO: Everyone can draw a cloud

HP_daniels_small.jpgFrom the 'stick figures are us' files:

LAS VEGAS. Russ Daniels VP CTO Cloud Services strategy at HP has an interesting view on why the term 'cloud' has become so popular so fast which he explained in a keynote session at Interop.
"Why are we so excited about the cloud?" Daniels said. "One answer is everyone can draw a cloud."

It's simple, but so profound. The simple act of saying when you connect to the Internet you are connecting in the cloud and then drawing a little cloud (and yeah I can draw one too) is something that we all did at one point. Beyond just being the Internet as we once understood it,

Daniels said that the cloud represents the next phase of evolution of the internet.
"It adds persistence and the ability to capture data and use it as context to identify intention," Daniels said.
He also said that in his view the Cloud is not an alternative delivery mechanism for what we already do. Rather he said that the Cloud augments and enhances traditional IT.

So what is the cloud good for?
"Because it allows you to capture context, that context can be used to create connections," Daniels said. "We think cloud is about collaboration more it is about individual worker productivity. The cloud is about context."
